Fete Day's coming!

My friend, Maleen, invented a holdiay. She calls it Fete Day. (Fete means 'party' in french--pronounced 'fet') She decided that August needed a holiday, so she made one up! She told me about it a couple of years ago, and I thought it sounded so fun to take part in a made up holiday, but as of yet I have not. Now that I am part of the blogging world, I thought I would share the details of this holiday, and invite you to join in the fun! (I did get Maleen's permission, and hope that she will correct me if I lead any of you astray.) So...here's how you celebrate Fete Day:

  • Every year there is a different Fete Day color. As of yet there is no set color (but I'm sure there will be one once it's a national holiday!). There are lots of ways to decide on a color. You can pick it out of a hat, have people vote, or just decide! (I've decided that in my neck of the woods we're following the rainbow colors, starting with red.) Everyone wears that color to your Fete Day festivities, and each person who is participating draws names, then buys a small gift (under $5) for their person in that color.
  • The official dessert of Fete Day is ice cream cake.
  • There should be an activity of some sort (in can be anything from miniature golf to horse shoes, bowling to water balloon toss--it can be ANYTHING, as long as you have fun while you do it...and it's legal and moral)
  • The date of Fete Day is August 16th (ish). Since it's a made up holiday, you can be flexible!

I think that's it! I would love to spread the Fete Day cheer, so choose a color, draw names, make or buy your ice cream cake, and get your family and friends together! I would love to hear about your festivities, whether I know you or not. I will be posting soon after our celebration next week. Spread the word, and spread the cheer!

I am always looking for new ways to celebrate so I'm going to try this. We have a High School Musical party planned for the 17th so I'm not sure I'll be able to put together something on the 18th but I'm sure going to try. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I think I may be having a High School Musical party too- but I think we can party twice in one week. SO-hmmm maybe we should invite all the bloggers of our neighborhood for the celebration. I love it! Party on!

Hello Deanne! I was so happy to finally meet you. Jared had told me all about being with your family when he was younger. I am so glad that you found my blog and we can now keep in touch. Love the Fete Day idea! We'll see if I do one. We just spent a weekend long of celebrating my birthday.

This is actually Tyler, but I'm masquerading as Maleen because she has an account. Anyhow, congrats on the rules—that's the most succinct I think we've ever seen the rules. Here's to Fete Day!
